For ages and ages i have toyed with the idea of blogging and here it finally is!
sentient intelligence thats what i call myself on the internet and i got asked recently why "Sentient"?
Well honestly it was because i am lazy and i picked up sentient because i was watching the Matrix and the Sentinels sort of took my fancy at the time.
But later i found out that Sentient means something which has the capacity for basic consciousness. And in retrospect that is what i am after.
Basic consciousness, an ability to understand why i do what i do and why i like it or not.
This blog here is an attempt at retrospectively trying to look at things around me and how i react to them.
And funnily enough this exact same thing was what was stopping me from blogging, the belief that i am taking things in without being judgemental, not that i don't have an opinion, but a desire to understand anything before i classify it in my brain and scream out an opinion about it.
So blogging wasn't an option because i don't have a lot to say but more to ask. But then i think what better way to find answers than to ask others?
Now I just have to get over my laziness :)

have a look at http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=define%3Asentient+being&btnG=Search&meta= as well ... :-)
well mr.sentient... its great to see you blogging... i think you have a lot to contribute as well... even if you don't think so...
your comment about not classifying anything before you have understood something is interesting... you imply that understanding is a liner process...
in my opinion... that is not the case... you get some knowledge, you form an opinion automatically (even if you are not blogging it)... then perhaps some more light is shed on a subject... then your understanding changes... which i don't believe is a bad thing...
i think its important to be humble... as one must always know that one *never* has the *full picture*... (in your case, does that mean you would never classify anything?) ... but rather, one learns a bit, then learns that bit with some sort of an understanding and classification of the first bit...
if i said to you:
2 + 2 = 4
you might not have consciously classified the above as:
* an equation
* a truth
* associated it with mathematics
but i believe you did that...
i did not provide any context for the above equation, but one can only understand in context... so if one is not given explicitly (and it never is for *everything*) then one improvises...
i could take the above equation into a completely different tangent ... and say, i want to use it to describe the user of the word "definition" ... and that the above is but one of many example (the rest of them are not mathematical) that shows how we "define" things are truths... suddenly the equation has become less mathematical and more about the english word "deinition" ... and i believe you are already judging it, classifying it... but i don't think there is anything wrong with that... and if done with the knowledge that you might not have the full picture yet, you are not likely to be arrogant about making assumptions... but will do so in full knowledge that further information could change your thoughts...
to me, that is flexibility and the ability to "learn as you go" ... otherwise, are we not waiting till the minute we die, and then say make a statement of any sort... ???
if i may, another example... if you skate... did you learn the mechanics, physics of skating, did you explore the emotions you might feel? did you learn before doing anything... my guess is that you put your skates on... probably saw someone for a minute or two, and then gave it a go... the you changed your style according to what you experienced in the first 5 minutes and what additional you had seen... and soon, using this interlaced method, you became a good skater...
so, don't wait till your opinion is so rigid that you cannot change it and find it emotionally challenging as you have put too much into it to let new knowledge transform it...
sharing is part of learning together... and learning is part of sharing together...
looking forward to another blog from you soon :-)
Good start!!
Hope u keep it going ;)
mage, i will never underestimate your ability to comment again :)
or actually your ability to flame bait *grin*
and from your link the second definition is more to my liking
"a being who has not yet reached enlightenment"......and so is hungry for more knowledge
and its interesting how you say that understanding is not a linear process but more a collaborative one in the sense that you get some knowledge form an opinion and then some other knowledge may potentially modify that opinion. i agree with that and what i find noteworthy is your statement about forming an opinion and moving forward with the knowledge that something else that you learn as you move along has the potential to change this opinion and that is what is necessary, a willingness for change an acceptance of the fear of making a mistake but still the grit to go ahead and do something :)
and you sum it up very nicely when you say that this is the ability to "learn as you go"
The realisation that by the time i formed an opinion it may be too rigid is what prompted me to start blogging :)
and i am already enjoying this blog world, who knows you might just see me on twitter soon :)
on twitter... now you are just scaring me :-)
what's next... dodgeball... jaiku? :-)
well, i certainly hope that people i know understand that i might be strongly opinionated... but its all in good fun.. lord knows i have said sorry and changed my mind enough times.. :-) but the vision never changes... there are things that are steadfast ... the framework within which everything else works... but inside... its very chaotic... and out of the chaos, comes a beautiful picture... don't believe me... search for the "mandelbrot set" or the "julia set" in the images part of a search engine of your choice :-) ahh.. the chaos theory... what a lovely theory...
agreed ..... i too love chaos theory and i love the baiting, it encourages a healthy discussion, in fact that is one of the reasons for the blog ;)
the challenge is to come up with topics interesting enough to make you flame me :)) and believe me i am looking forward to it so you better be prepared
oh... you don't have to worry about me flaming you :-) write anything... seriously... even just put the alphabet down... i'll find a way to flame that ;)
so, 42 being the answer... the question is: are you prepared ;)
arrr... arrr... arrr... where art thou?
